Non-Contact Temperature Measurement: Infrared Technology Empowers Body Temperature Monitoring in Biological Mechanism Research

1. Background Introduction

In biological mechanism research such as animal metabolic behavior analysis, body temperature serves as a core experimental data, requiring coverage across different experimental environments and the animals’ entire growth stages. Researchers need to obtain animals’ body temperature in various experimental settings and throughout their growth stages. Traditional contact and wearable temperature measurement devices (e.g., strap-type temperature measurement tools) present numerous inconveniences in practical application: they are cumbersome to use and tend to interfere with animals’ normal activities. This issue can be effectively addressed by adopting non-contact, online infrared temperature monitoring equipment.

2. Project Cases

1) Temperature Measurement Project for Mouse Drug Experiments

Record body temperature changes in mice after drug injection, accurately capturing Max (maximum temperature), Avg (average temperature), and Min (minimum temperature) data to support the analysis of drug metabolism mechanisms.

2) Continuous Body Temperature Monitoring Project for Hamsters

This project requires real-time recording of hamsters’ body temperature for consecutive days. Raythink’s TN220 Thermographic Cube Camera was installed above the hamster breeding cages, with one temperature measurement area designated for each cage. Through switch networking and PoE power supply, the system conducts 24/7 monitoring and recording of hamsters’ body temperature inside the breeding cages. The PC client features data storage functionality, enabling scheduled acquisition of temperature data in monitored areas and providing historical temperature query capabilities.
